1.     University studies

1987-1993 Physics and Mechanics at the Technical University of Darmstadt/ Germany (TUD). Courses: Physics (experimental, theoretical, quantum, statistical, laboratory), mathematics (analysis, algebra, statistics), inorganic chemistry (theory and laboratory), dynamics of fluids and environmental systems, meteorology, renewable energies, waste treatment (liquid/solid); research project “Sea ice dynamics”.

June 1993 Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (specialized in fluid dynamics and environmental sciences) at the TUD, Germany.

December 1998 Bachelor of Science in Physics, equivalent (“homologised”) title, by the Spanish Minister of Science, based on the German degree.

Ph.D. Studies 1998-2004 University of Granada, Spain.

        Courses: Applied physics: physics of climate and climate change, solar radiation, particles and dispersion, numerical methods in radiation and dispersion, radiation in the atmosphere, signals in physical systems, spectral analysis; principles of remote sensing. Statistics: environmental data networks, time series analysis, statistics of spatial data.

May 2000: research project “Homogenisation and analysis of the first instrumental climate data from the Iberian Peninsula”.

March 2004: Ph.D. in Applied Physics (doctor) at the University of Granada/ Spain. Thesis “Detection of temperature changes on the Iberian Peninsula with homogeneous regional data”.

 

2.     Experience in translation and interpretation

Since 1996, as a freelancer (English-German, Spanish<>German and English-Spanish). Expertise in physics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, energy, weather and climate. Working areas: tourism, sports, law, health and general.

3.     Professional experience in physics and climatology

May 1994 – April 1996 Development and programming of parts of a global numerical climate model at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany.

Since May 1996 Researcher in the Atmosphere Physics Group at the University of  Granada, Spain; talks and congress contributions in German, English and Spanish.

March 1999- December 2000 Research grant holder in the project “Statistical models of climate variability on the Iberian Peninsula”.

March-September 2003 Grant holder in the project “Self-organized learning in physics and environmental sciences” (web page development).

4.      Other professional experience, language and science teaching

Since 1985        Private physics and mathematics tutoring.

1990-1992         Fluid dynamics classes at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Since 1993        Talks and congress contributions (in English, Spanish and German language), related to climatology and statistical analysis.

Oct 1993-March 1994. Activities in journalism and human rights in Guatemala (languages: Spanish and German).

Since September 1996 German teacher (CL Granada, University Languages’ Centre, Granada, and private), all levels, individuals or groups.

April 2004 Spanish education certificate for teachers (CAP, University of Granada).

 

5.     Computing and other qualifications

·        Extensive experience with applications on a user-level (WORD, POWER POINT, FrontPage), operating systems Windows, MS-DOS and UNIX, editor LATEX, internet and e-mail.

·        Particular experience in numerical data and statistical analysis, supported by EXCEL and statistics software.

·        Advanced programming in FORTRAN and basic knowledge in C.

·        Translating with WORDFAST.
